AMD Dual Core!
If Intel releases dual core processors, AMD isn’t going to fall behind on that. Now that you see Opterons having dual cores, desktop CPU’s will soon follow. The wait is killing me.
AMD’s dual-core Opteron processors reviewed @ TR
“We’ve had a pair of dual-core Opteron processors on the test bench for some time now, and we’re pleased to report some rather impressive results. AMD’s dual-core design is something more than just a pair of CPUs glued together on a single piece of silicon, and this design choice yields a performance dividend. Keep reading to see how the new Opteron 275 stacks up against its Opteron predecessors and against Intel’s latest “Nocona” Xeons. We also have a head-to-head battle of single-socket, dual-core workstation processors: the Opteron 175 versus the Pentium Extreme Edition 840.“
AMD Dual Core Opteron 875 @ TrustedReviews
“Today AMD has launched the 865 (1.8GHz), 870 (2GHz) and 875 (2.2GHz), so you can go out today and buy a server that uses these processors with prices as follows; in trays of 1,000 units the 865 is $1,514, the 870 $2,149 and the 875 costs a scary $2,649 and while you could spend your money with HP, IBM or Sun we got a great deal of help with this feature from Armari so well use some examples from Amaris range to show how these processor prices translate into end-user pricing. All of these servers use a 2U Tyan Transport TX46 chassis with 4GB of ECC PC3200, onboard ATI graphics and Maxtor 10,000rpm U320 SCSI hard drive.”
