Year-long ISP Study Shows Most ISPs Falsely Advertise

· by John Ponio

Really quick: what Internet speed are you paying for? Don’t know? Then how will you know if you’re getting what you’re paying for? Well, the FCC did a year-long study using a firm that did a similar thing in the UK, wherein they tested 6,800 “representative homes” on their Internet connection vs. what their Internet connection was advertised to be, and now the results are out. Turns out most Internet providers aren’t up to their advertising. Verizon’s FiOS was the best, and according to their chart was often faster than advertised, with cable services such as Comcast coming in second. DSL providers were the worst, typically delivering below their advertised speeds all of the time. You can read more about it and see the charts here.
