Windows XP Has Most Rootkit Infections
A recent study done by Avast! shows that 49% of their users still use Windows XP, and those installations are responsible for 74% of rootkit infections. Avast! points the finger at Windows XP, saying that it doesn’t have the built-in protection that Windows Vista and Windows 7 have, and there are also a lot of pirated versions of Windows XP that haven’t received the security updates.
