Verizon Bringing 100Gbit Network to the U.S.
Just yesterday we reported Google’s bringing gigabit internet to Kansas City. Well another big announcement in internet-related news came out yesterday via cnet: Verizon is going to be installing a 100 gigabit network in the United States by the end of the second quarter. There will be multiple 100Gbit lines; one from Chicago to New York, one from Sacramento to Los Angeles, and one from Minneapolis to Kansas City. Ihab Tarazi, vice president of network planning at Verizon, said today in a statement, “Advancing to 100G is a significant step in strengthening our global IP network to handle the bandwidth demands of our customers–whether it’s large enterprises or the average consumer. Besides greater scalability and network efficiencies, we also expect 100G deployment to improve latency on a route-by-route basis.”
