Super Talent Operating System on a Stick

· by John Ponio

Super Talent, who makes DRAM modules and flash memory components, has come out with a new type of PC peripheral: an operating system on a stick. With the increased speed and DRAM caching of USB 3.0, flash drives can operate at internal HD-like speeds, and that’s where this drive comes in. They’re selling a flash drive that serves as RAM cache in 16, 32, and 64GB sizes. And for $20 more, they’ll put on a copy of Ceedo Professional. What this means is that you can have your operating system, and thus all of your personalizations, at any computer at speeds rivaling that of an OS installed on an internal HD (assuming the computer has a USB 3.0 port). For 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB drives without Ceedo Professional (so it’ll just act like RAM) it’s $59, $119, and $209. If you’d like Ceedo Professional, it’s an additional $20. If you don’t have a USB 3.0 port on your computer, it will be “the fastest USB 2.0 drive you’ve ever seen” (so says the press release) if you use it in a regular USB 2.0 drive, but it won’t be nearly the same speed. Check out the press release here.
