Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and Windows Home Server 2008 Announced

· by John Ponio

Michael Kleef, who is the Senior Technical Product Manager with the Windows Server and Cloud division, announced in a blog post yesterday that on February 22, Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 and Windows Home Server 2008 will be available for general download. While pretty much all it does for Windows 7 is roll all of the updates into one convenient package, it does include two new features for Windows Home Server. The first feature is called Dynamic Memory, which increases virtual machine density by 40% without hurting performance. The second feature, called RemoteFX, “lets you virtualize the Graphical Processing Unit (GPU) on the server side and deliver next-generation rich media and 3D user experiences for VDI. RemoteFX is also enabling new low cost ultra-thin client devices to enter the market.” Again, it will be available to download on February 22.
