SanDisk Announces 19nm NAND Memory

· by John Ponio

It seems there will be no end to how small manufacturers can make things. SanDisk announced a 64Gb, 19 nanometer flash memory card with 2 bits per cell (like MLC, referred to as X2). The technology will be used both for imbedded systems (like cell phones and personal music players) and for memory cards like your camera would use. Production is expected to start in the second half of 2011. When production starts for the 64Gb X2, SanDisk will also add 3 bits per cell products to their lineup. Yoram Cedar, who is the executive vice president and chief technology officer at SanDisk, said, “We are excited to introduce the world’s smallest and lowest-cost NAND flash chips based on industry-leading 19nm process technology in our ongoing collaboration with our manufacturing partner Toshiba. Products based on this technology are designed to enable new applications, form factors and consumer experience that will continue to drive the flash industry to new heights.” Read more here.
