Obama Administration Writing Plan for Online ID
Over the past years there’s been an increase in concern over internet security, and now the Obama administration is looking into it. President Obama is writing what’s called the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace. Coming in the next few months, the proposal isn’t going to take away anonymity on the internet. What it will do is give vendors a more secure way to know that the people purchasing content are really whom they say they are. U.S. Commerce Secretary John Locke said, “We are not talking about a national ID card, We are not talking about a government-controlled system. What we are talking about is enhancing online security and privacy, and reducing and perhaps even eliminating the need to memorize a dozen passwords, through creation and use of more trusted digital identities.” Information on what is in this proposal is not really around, which makes it hard to say whether this is a good thing or not. More news is to follow, hopefully, as the president submits this plan.
