No Private Profiles for Google+

· by John Ponio

A big deal going on online now is privacy on the Internet. A lot of people are concerned that there isn’t enough. Google, on the other hand, thinks there’s too much, apparently. They announced on a help article that there will be no private profiles on Google+. “The purpose of Google Profiles is to enable you to manage your online identity. Today, nearly all Google Profiles are public. We believe that using Google Profiles to help people find and connect with you online is how the product is best used. Private profiles don’t allow this, so we have decided to require all profiles to be public.” They go on to say that your first and last name and your gender is all that is required, and it’s up to you what else you show to the world. If you’re a current Google+ user, make sure to manually switch over your profile to not-private, or it will be deleted come July 1. Read the help article here.
