KFA2 Announces Wireless GTX 460

· by John Ponio

KFA2, which is a Galaxy sub-brand, has announced a wireless videocard. Wireless meaning there are no display outputs, only wireless transmitters. It remains the standard, aside from display-outputs, GTX 460 1GB, however. It uses the 50MHz channel of the 5GHz spectrum, and is capable of transmitting uncompressed 1080p video at 60hz up to 30 meters (about 100 feet). It can work through walls and other obstacles, which allows a user (who uses a wireless mouse or something of the sort) to put the computer away from his desk so he doesn’t have to listen to it. It also supports HDCP 2.0 which allows it to display copy-protected Blu-ray movies. The latency is something not mentioned, which could be a big problem with gamers. The hardest of the hard-core know that milliseconds matter, and if this has a tendency to be laggy it will be a big problem. Also if you use this card to have your computer away from your desk, you’re going to have to use some sort of wireless mouse and keyboard, which most gamers I know (including myself) don’t like because of the latency. What this does look good for, but is probably overkill for, is HTPCs. Many people run into the problem of heat because they have to keep the computer inside of a small cabinet to be close enough to the TV. With this, you could have it in the back of your room out in the open and run IR repeaters for your remotes. I’m really interested to see how latency plays out, but sadly there’s no word of a US release date. It’s due to be out soon all throughout Europe, however.
