FTC Studies Sales of M-Rated Videogames to Minors, Compares to Music and Movies
The FTC recently did a study on how easy it is for children under 17 to buy CDs with the Parental Advisory label, M-rated videogames, and R-rated and unrated movies. For the test they asked many minors to go try to buy said CDs, games, and movies to see if the stores would prevent them from buying the products. About 64% of children were able to buy the CDs, 38% were able to buy R-rated movies, 47% were able to buy unrated movies, and only 13% were able to buy M-rated videogames. This study really shows that the grief the videogame industry is unwarranted, and that the videogame industry is one of the most self-regulated media industries out there.
