FCC to Vote on Net Neutrality Rules

· by John Ponio

If you haven’t heard, the FCC is going to be voting on the Net Neutrality rules today. These new rules, while not as bad as they could be, are not what is good for the consumer. There are numerous loopholes, as well as a feature that allows wireless providers to regulate the content they provide. Senator Al Franken said summarized: “Maybe you like Google Maps. Well, tough. If the F.C.C. passes this weak rule, Verizon will be able to cut off access to the Google Maps app on your phone and force you to use their own mapping program, Verizon Navigator, even if it is not as good. And even if they charge money, when Google Maps is free.” If you’d like to read more about the rules (which are actually pretty hard to find) head on over here.
