DDR3 Oversupply Leads to Cheap DRAM
Today, DRAM chip irces have reached a one-year low. Previously at $2.80 per 1GB commodity 1-Gbit DDR3 back in April and May last year, it’s now at $0.84 for the same according to Taiwan-based DRAM trading platform DRAMeXchange. The lower price is great for both builders of computers and consumers. The builders can spend less to get more performance out of their PCs, which means consumers (theoretically) pay less for more performance. The cheaper price is blamed on an oversupply of chips, even though there were warnings of a shortage due to problems of the adapting to new technology and obtaining equipment.
