Crucial Releases m4 SSD
You’d think with all of the SSDs coming out that they’d be cheaper. Oh well. Crucial released their new 25 nanometer “m4” SSD in sizes from 64GB to 512GB. They boast a 415MB/s read speed and a 260MB/s write speed. Robert Wheadon, Crucial’s worldwide senior product manager, said, “The new Crucial m4 SSD builds on the enormous success of its predecessor, the Crucial RealSSD C300. As a subsidiary of Micron Technology, we’re in the unique position of leveraging Micron’s NAND development and manufacturing expertise for our Crucial branded SSDs. These next-generation m4 SSDs offer customers higher capacities and even greater performance at affordable prices.” The drives cost (all USD) $129.99 for the 64GB drive, $249.99 for the 128GB drive, $499.99 for the 256GB drive, and $999.99 for the 512GB SSD. These prices, aside from the 64GB drive, bring the price per gigabyte to under $2. This may be cheaper than OCZ’s Vertex 3, but the drives are also slower (specifications-wise, anyway).
