California Passes Online Sales Tax

· by John Ponio

Live in California and like to buy things online? Then I’m sorry to say that you’re going to have to start paying sales tax on your online purchases. Not everyonline purchase will be taxed, however; only companies who have some connection to California (warehouses, employees, offices, etc.) will have to collect sales taxes. With the online taxes comes a lower sales tax (if you can call 1% lower actually lower) at 7.75%. Don’t think that this is will be final, as Amazon is calling this tax unconstitutional. While details haven’t been released, Amazon would be fairly stupid to not go after this in court if they really believe that. The new tax is expected to raise $317 million, which will be a great relief to the massively-in-debt government of California. Read a few more details on the tax here.
