ARRIS to Show Off 4.5Gbps Data Cable
Live in the Chicago area? ARRIS, “a global communications technology company specializing in the design, engineering and supply of technology supporting triple- and quad-play broadband services for residential and business customers around the world,” is going to demonstrate a DOCSIS (Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification) cable at a conference in Chicago by transferring a file in real-time through this 4.5Gbps-downstream cable. Also being shown is a proof-of-concept idea that uses 24 DOCSIS upstream channels with a single Fiber node, and it can transmit up to 575Mbps upstream. The 4.5Gbps cable uses 128 DOCSIS channels on a single node. The event will be at NCTA in Chicago on June 14-16, 2001. Check out more details on the cables here.
Main points of the demo:
- to show the incredible capacity of the current HFC network
- to illustrate the ability of the ARRIS C4 CMTS to capitalize on the HFC network’s immense capacity
- to display the latent flexibility of future DOCSIS CMTS systems that can capitalize on the HFC network’s upstream capacity as well
