Arctic Silver Releases Freezer 13 Pro CPU Heatsink

· by John Ponio

Arctic Silver, who makes all sorts of cooling peripherals for computers, has released yet another CPU cooler: the Freezer 13 Pro. It’s pretty much another oversized heat sink, but with a little twist. Normally in between the copper core and the fins that dissipate the heat, it’s just air. Arctic Silver has used this space to insert a 50mm PWM-controlled fan that blows downward, moving air over the chipset coolers, cooling them. This seems like an intriguing idea, but with the smaller, extra fan, there’s more noise. The smaller the fan, generally, the more noise it makes. A 50mm fan is bound to make a lot of noise. Instead of screws and backplate, as most gigantic coolers use today, this cooler uses a push-pin similar to Intel’s 775 stock heatsink. They claim that it works, and it has worked for gigantic heatsinks in the past, so there should be no problems there. It’s compatible with pretty much every socket type from both AMD and Intel. It also has a 120mm fan mounted on it. Check out all of the specs and HD pictures at Arctic’s website here.
