AMD to Release Entry Level and Midrange Radeon 6000 Series GPUs

· by John Ponio

In what seems to be an attempt to gain more market share, AMD is going to launch three new 6000-series video cards: 6670, 6570, and 6450. To be released on April 19, the cards will differ from the OEM versions already released by the GDDR5 memory it uses, compared to the GDDR3 memory the OEM versions use. The Digitimes article says that AMD’s competitor card, the 6790, is beating NVIDIA’s 550 Ti because of a “friendlier price.” AMD is hoping to gain more market share by besting NVIDIA’s cards. Also in the article, they claim that the Radeon 7000 (Southern Islands) series is set to begin mass production in May.
