AMD plans to invest in Fusion application development
A great piece of hardware is only as good as the software that runs on it. According to a PC World interview, AMD realizes this and plans to invest in software companies that develop applications to make use of the parallel processing capabilities of the new Fusion APU.
“The goal … is to help speed time to market for the kind of unique computing solutions and applications that Fusion products are designed to enable, such as breakthroughs in visual computing, performance per watt and device form factor,” Taylor said.
Many applications such as antivirus and gesture, facial, and voice recognition. Microsoft’s recently leaked Windows 8 slides showed hints of facial recognition for user login authentication. Using an AMD Fusion APU could speed up the results of that type of software and also save on power usage. Hopefully consumers will be able to realize the benefits of the Fusion processor as soon as it launches next year without waiting for software to play catchup.
