The computer industry

· by John Chen

The computer industry has so much politics behind it that it’s quite mind-boggling. I understand that companies need to market their products correctly and look for websites that will kiss ass and write “pleasing” words. But to know that companies refuse to provide support to a website simply because bad reviews or comments were written is just plain wrong. We do our jobs as reviewers and provide accurate and factual data. Of course there is also the opinions factor, but that is concluded from the facts we provide. Why am I saying all this? It’s because a company just announced that InsaneTek is no longer on their list of reviewers. The strange thing is that we’ve done reviews for them in the past. Weird isn’t it? Well I guess they have other websites that will throw in good words when a product deserves none. All I can say is good luck to them all. So why am I reporting this? It’s because I want you all to know that InsaneTek will continue to report the truth, realizing that we have the possibility of losing support from companies. I am a consumer just like the rest of you. When I buy a product, I expect to find out accurate information when I look it up, not some cheesy stuff that just says everything is bling bling awesome.

Similar incidents have happened recently as well. The big fuss about ATI’s poor paper launch can be seen over at Hardocp and PCPerspective. While we’re not lucky enough to be in the loop with the news and product information, I whole-heartedly agree with the anger. What is the point of having paper launches when there is no product to back it up? That’s like saying I have a 70GHz computer and it’s the fastest in the world. You wanna see it? My camera has no batteries. I’ll show you later…and later…and later. Get the drift?

Why do companies do such things to let us down? If you don’t have the product or your product is not all that great, don’t expect anything out of us. You provide, we test, and report the truth. If it’s good, people will buy it. If it’s bad, go back to the drawing board and listen to what we have to say. That is how it goes.
