Hard drive prices on the decline
You may not have noticed but hard drive prices have been falling quite a bit. Digitimes reports that hard drive quotes in Taiwan have dropped 10-20% since the beginning of Q2 2010. Tight supply had been keeping quotes to remain high since the second quarter of last year. Since PC manufacturers started forecasting down their shipments in Q3 2009 the hard drive supply went up.
Drive capacities 500GB and higher dropped the most at an average of 20% while 250GB and 320GB saw only 10% drops. There are only four to five hard drive suppliers in the world which means the likelihood of any price wars anytime soon is low.
