A Windows 8 blog post outlined a new feature called "secure boot" which would make it (supposedly) extremely hard for rootkits to infect the MBR (Master Boot Record) of the hard drive and thus gain un-restrained access to the entire drive. Well, before Windows 8 is even released, "secure boot" has already been hacked. The first WIndows 8 bootkit will be released at the upcoming International Malware Conference MalCon in India. Peter Kleissner is the man responsible, and his history is in bypassing security for antivirus companies. You can read Peter's research blog here, and read a little more about the bootkit here.
