As you may or may not have heard/seen on your radio and/or television, today was the first federal test of the national emergency alert system. If you did see it, good news! It works for your area. If you had the radio or TV on at 2:00 P.M. and didn't see or hear a thing, well.. Hopefully nothing happens to our country in between now and when they get it fixed. FEMA said in a blog post that it will take several weeks for the test participants to send in their data, meaning that it will be some time before the system actually works. While it didn't fail entirely, there were quite a number of people who did not see the message, meaning all of those people could not have heard an evacuation warning and suffered as a result. You can read as-it-happened updates here, and read FEMA's post-op blog post here.
