IBM, arguably one of the most influential companies in the history of computers, has announced that they have decided upon a new CEO, as Sam Palmisano has been due to step down from the position he took in 2002. Who is this new CEO? Her (yes, "her") name is Virginia "Ginni" Rometty. When she takes her position as CEO of IBM on January 1, she will become the first female CEO in the company's history. She has been moving up through the ranks in the company for some time now, and she has served in sales, services and acquisitions, as well as served on the board of American International Group from 2006 to 2009. She said about her future strategy for the company, "I’ve been head of strategy at IBM and together with my colleagues built our five-year plan. My priorities are going to be to continue to execute on that." She seems qualified for the position, so only time will tell how IBM's future will go with their new CEO.
