In the past Google has made a noticeable effort to secure Internet connections through SSL. At the beginning of last year they made their e-mail service Gmail automatically use an SSL connection, and months after that they introduced a way to make Google web searches through an SSL connection. Well now they're introducing automatic SSL web searches if you're logged in. This means that it will be harder for hackers to intercept your traffic when you're out at an Internet cafe or other public Wifi hotspots. This also will not allow websites to see what search queries guided your particular computer to their website, but they will be able to see top queries that guide browsers to their websites through Google Webmaster Tools. You can read more about this here.
