Back in May, there were announcements that Microsoft was going to buy Skype. Well, the European Union has approved the deal, meaning that Microsoft is that much closer to finishing this deal. There were qualms with the deal because it could mean Skype would no longer be available on platforms other than Windows. But Microsoft has quelled those fears. Back in May, Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer said, "We're committed to the Skype user base. We want to continue to build and engage that base. Part of that commitment is continuing to support Skype on non-Microsoft platforms." This does not, however, quell the fears of Skype competitors that Microsoft will drown out competition by bundling it with other Microsoft services. You can read more about this here.
