For the first time since 1996, IBM is now worth more than Microsoft. This is due to IBM's stock price slowly rising 22% since the beginning of 2011, while Microsoft's stock price has dropped 8.8% in the same time. As of September 29, IBM was valued at $214 billion while Microsoft was valued at $213.2 billion. Ted Schadlier, a Forrester Research said, "IBM went beyond technology. They were early to recognise that computing was moving way beyond these boxes on our desks." You can read more about it here.
