There have recently been research reports that both show Chrome will soon take the #2 browser spot from Firefox. When both Firefox and Internet Explorer lose market share, it appears that its losing that market share to Chrome. Depending on which market research company you use, Chrome will take the #2 spot either in the next couple months or mid 2012. There are two companies with reports floating around: StatCounter and Net Application. Microsoft personally chooses Net Application, which puts Chrome's market share at 17.8% at the end of 2011 with Firefox at 22.3% and IE at 55.3%. The reason Microsoft chooses this is "...because Net Applications weights its numbers to more better estimate usage share in countries from which relatively few users navigate to sites it monitors, the company's data theoretically paints a more accurate picture because it factors in the huge Chinese market." (Computerworld quote.) With these numbers they estimate Chrome will steal the #2 spot from Firefox by mid-2012.
