OCZ Synapse

Remember OCZ's RevoDrive Hybrid? Basically, it puts an HDD on a PCI SSD to increase both size and performance by using the SSD as a cache for the HDD using software called DataPlex. Well, OCZ has recently come out with a standalone SATA 6Gb/s SSD that can do almost the same thing, with the same software, but with a little worse performance. The advantages of this are that you only have to buy one SSD, and you can use the HDD that you already own. Tobias Brinkmann, Director of Product Management at OCZ, said, "The industry has shown that it craves the performance advantages that SSDs provide, however, many users still value the high capacities associated with HDDs. We see the Synapse Cache SSDs integrated with Dataplex™ software as a big win for a large number of customers who value SSD performance but still require HDD capacity. We are proud to be the first to offer this no-compromise approach to enabling high-performance and high-capacity storage for virtually any PC platform." This new SSD/HDD/software combination brings read/write speeds of up to 550/490 MB/s for the 64GB model and 550/510 MB/s for the 128GB model.
