Intel yesterday announced their newest line of SSDs, the 510 series. This will be the first SSD line that makes use of SATA 6GB/s. What this means is that the new drives will be even more ridiculously fast. Intel says they'll have read speeds of up to 500MB/s sequential and write speeds of up to 315MB/ sequential. Intel's fastest drive currently out has 250MB/s sequential reads and 70MB/s sequential writes. These speeds are crazy. I can't wait to see how fast these drives are in actual use. Read and write speeds of this kind will give almost instantaneous opening of applications, faster performance in data-heavy applications like Photoshop, and amazingly-fast boot times. The SSDs will use 34nm NAND memory, and come in 250GB and 120GB models. Respectively, they cost $314.99 and $614.99 (prices taken from Newegg).
