A new device from Viking Modular Solutions allows an SSD to be put into a DIMM slot. While this sounds fine and dandy, all the DIMM slot will do is allow the SSD to be powered. The data connection goes through a SATA port on the motherboard. So while generally not for the average consumer, this device will be good for 1u-sized servers who have tons of extra DIMM slots but not much extra room inside of the server. The performance is identical to other SSDs, and will be more on the expensive side.
