Introducing Amazon Glacier

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has recently added a cloud storage solution called Glacier. It's not so clear if it's available to everyone or just to businesses, but it's looking like it's available to everyone. In an interesting twist, you don't pay for a certain amount of data storage, you pay as you use it. How much? $0.01 per gigabyte. So as you upload you'll get charged that much for each gigabyte you take up, and no more. The cloud storage uses AES 256 encryption within the facilities, and SSL for uploading and downloading. For redundancy, every file redundantly backed up within each facility, and then again in a separate facility. If you're interested in learning more, you can check out the AWS Glacier page here, and you can read the announcement here
