Earlier today marked the first public launch of Windows 8 as Microsoft released the operating system on TechNet. So now that it's out, is it worth switching to? Honestly the new start screen isn't that bad once you get used to it, and there are a lot of little things that make Windows 8 much nicer than Windows 7, in my opinion. What about speed? Well, that's where benchmarks come in. Steven Walton over at TechSpot decided to do some benchmarking of his own, comparing Windows 7 and Windows 8 on identical machines. I won't steal all the thunder, but it looks like Windows 8 and Windows 7 are about the same. Windows 7 is just barely better with graphical things, such as gaming, while Windows 8 is better with multimedia applications, such as video encoding. You can read the full benchmark review here.
