For a while now Valve has been hard at work porting over Left 4 Dead 2, as well as the whole Source engine, to run on Linux operating systems. Right now they're only going for Ubuntu, but once it's on Ubuntu they'll start doing other releases. Well, Valve released posted a quick update on how the port is coming along. Initially when they opened up L4D2 they ran the game at 6fps, which is to be expected since it was the first time. Well, after doing quite a bit of tweaking, they've managed to get the game running at 315fps. While that sounds like a lot, it will sound like even more after I tell you that on their Windows 7 benchmarks (same hardware), the game was running at only 270.6fps. This is a testament to how amazing Linux and OpenGL are, because it's outperforming Windows and Direct3D. You can read the full blog post here.
