Aside from the Alienware M11x, most gamers who wanted 11.6 in. gaming laptops were out of luck. And right now, it looks like the M11x is nearing extinction, so what are mobile gamers to do? Well, luckily AVADirect has come to the rescue. They just launched an 11.6 inch gaming laptop that, customized correctly, is extremely powerful for a laptop, especially for its form factor. The notebook is very customizable in its specifications, even down to what thermal compound they'll use when building it.

There are a ridiculous amount of hardware customizations you can choose from, so I'll just write a few of the highlights. Check them all out on the product page.

  • Processor:

Processors in this laptop range from the low end, a dual core Intel Core i3 2350M 2.3GHz, all of the way up to an Ivy Bridge quad core Core i7 3610QM 2.3GHz-3.3Ghz, with some Sandy Bridge i5's in between.

  • Memory:

Memory options include G.Skill, ADATA, Corsair, Crucial, Kingston, and Mushkin, and come in amounts of 4GB up to 16GB depending on the one you choose.

  • Graphics:

There's no option on the graphics, you're "stuck" with the NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 2GB GDDR3. Not a bad chip. It includes NVIDIA's "Optimus technology" which switches off the GPU when you're not needing it, so it won't suck up your battery juice when you're just browsing the web. When the GPU isnt on, the laptop runs off of Intel's HD 3000 or HD 4000 (only HD 4000 if you have the Ivy Bridge chip) integrated graphics, which are actually quite powerful themselves.
  • Storage:
Hard drives for this laptop are all over the board with different sizes of SSDs and HDDs, and there are offerings from Seagate, Samsung, and OCZ. Sadly no hybrid options, as there's not really any room for it.

While the laptop has an 11.6 in. screen, don't be fooled into thinking this is a tiny netbook. While it's not gigantic, it's got some bulkiness. While weight wasn't stated, the laptop's dimensions are 11.3 inches wide, 8.15 inches deep, and 1.46 high with the lid closed.

The starting price for the lowest-end options is $937, and it is available now. You can order it here, and read its announcement here. If I were in the market for a portable gaming laptop, this is quite tempting. While it's a little bit bigger than Alienware's M11x, it has quite a bit more power. It's also much less ugly, in my opinion, which factors into my personal choice quite a bit.
