It only takes 30 seconds.

What is the worst thing to happen to overclocking?
What, in your opinion, is the worst thing to happen to overclocking since you started doing it?
The worst thing to me is how much cooling has gone over the top. You used to be able to compete in the 3D ranks with a chiller or single direct die phase change system (even less depending on how far back you go). That was the max anyone thought of using. Now you have custom, tweaked cascades costing upwards of $1000. Then, unless you have 2+ heads, you need another one for your graphics card. Sure there are alternatives like dry ice or LN2 but you have to buy (or make) containers for those too and they aren't easy to maintain. I guess I just miss the days when a Prommie was for the most insane overclockers. Now it seems like you can't even compete with one. That's my opinion, now let's hear yours.

From a competitive standpoint, dual graphics.

Hmm, haven't been in it long so it's hard to say.
I suppose it was when motherboard manufacturer's/BIOS versions started including the "auto overclock" option. You just turned it on/off and it overclocked your hardware something like 33%. My main beef was it took the fun out of everything, no more doing the math or testing for stability or anything. Also, it usually just overclocked the CPU by pumping up the multi, it did it all wrong. i thought features like that were pointless, especially since they did the whole overclocking process wrong and took the fun out of everything. |

I am the worst thing to happen to overclocking. Ever since my failed pencil mod on a amd thoroughbred i've been going steadily down hill.

LOL! What happened? pencil in the wrong resistor?
My experience with the pencil mods led to long term damage to the northbridge. It was great at first, but eventually seemed to kill the mobo. I sold it to soeone here, wonder if it's still working find stock? It was the NF7-s v2.0 |

Yeah I remember when you sold it, i was thinking about getting it because i didnt feel like doing the mod on my nf7-s. I think you neglected to say the northbridge was dying in the for sale thread though :P
Actually though, due to a really crappy heatsink clip i ended up chipping the dye . The clip required you to use a screwdriver to get the thing on and off and it just slipped as i was pushing down very hard :\

Oh no, I mentioned it. I only sold it because it ran perfect at stock speeds...it just BSOD'd out the ass if you tried to overclock it. Whoever bought it just needed a Socket-A mobo, no overclocking interest.
